Campaign And Hospital Deny Claim That James Talarico Went To Ohio Mental Hospital
Virginia Kruta · October 12, 2026
Nick Sortor's post, as published by The Daily Wire
Following reporting by @SaraGonzalesTX and @CarolineWren, a hospital employee told @RheinAmacher and I that Talarico had in fact been a patient at the Lindner Center of Hope near Cincinnati, Ohio, which specializes in around-the-clock mental health treatment.
The Daily Wire adds: “The Daily Wire has not independently verified the woman’s identity, her employment at the facility, or the claim made in the recording.”

This doesn't match the data.
Confidence score: 1/10 — Flatly contradicted: the hospital it named says in writing Talarico never received treatment there, and he was at public events in Texas on Oct. 9 and 10. The only support is an unverified phone call.
Sourced from Lindner Center of Hope (X), this doesn't match the data.
“Ohio mental hospital CONFIRMS James Talarico was discharged from the facility earlier this week.”
The hospital named in the post said in writing that Talarico has never received treatment there. Talarico posted from public events in Austin on Oct. 9 and in Dallas on the night of Oct. 10, when the recording supposedly showed he had just been discharged.

This verdict doesn't align with the primary source, Lindner Center of Hope: The hospital named in the claim says Talarico has never received treatment there. The statement is quoted verbatim by PolitiFact and The Daily Wire.
Why it doesn't hold up
Two independent sources contradict the post. The hospital it named denied in writing that Talarico was ever treated there, and PolitiFact's reporting places him at public events in Texas on Oct. 9 and on the evening of Oct. 10. The only evidence offered was a recorded phone call with an unidentified person, which the Daily Wire said it could not verify.

01
The claim
On Oct. 11, Nick Sortor posted: "Following reporting by @SaraGonzalesTX and @CarolineWren, a hospital employee told @RheinAmacher and I that Talarico had in fact been a patient at the Lindner Center of Hope near Cincinnati, Ohio, which specializes in around-the-clock mental health treatment." PolitiFact reports the post had been viewed more than 7 million times by Oct. 12.
02
The evidence offered
The post relied on a call by Rhein Amacher, who wrote that "an individual identifying themselves as a female facility employee reportedly stated that Talarico was no longer a patient and had been discharged within the previous 24–48 hours." In the clip, the woman says Talarico "was just discharged this evening." PolitiFact reports Amacher's call log showed the calls were made a little before 9 p.m. on Oct. 10.
03
The hospital's written statement
On Oct. 11, the Lindner Center of Hope posted on X: "Representative James Talarico has never received treatment from Lindner Center of Hope."
04
Where Talarico was
On Oct. 9, campaign spokesman JT Ennis posted that Talarico was "meeting with voters at ACL today," at the Austin City Limits festival. PolitiFact reports he attended country singer Kacey Musgraves' concert in Dallas on the night of Oct. 10, and that he posted photos of himself with Musgraves there. That is the same evening the recording said he had just been discharged in Ohio.
05
The right-leaning framing
The Daily Wire published Sortor's post in full alongside a partial transcript of the recording. It also reported the campaign's and the hospital's denials, and wrote: "The Daily Wire has not independently verified the woman’s identity, her employment at the facility, or the claim made in the recording."
06
The left-leaning framing
PolitiFact rated the claim Pants on Fire, writing: "The claims say Talarico was discharged on the night of Oct. 10. But he appeared in public on Oct. 9 and 10."
07
The buried fact
The recording undercuts itself. According to PolitiFact's transcript, the woman's first words were: "Hi, I do not find anyone with that name for the last four days that’s been discharged and they’re not here in the building." PolitiFact also reports that in a second call, Amacher said he "simply made one up" when asked for a patient code. The Daily Wire's partial transcript starts after that opening line.
08
What each side gets right, and hides
The Daily Wire accurately reports the denials and says it couldn't verify the call, but it carries the full post, notes another Texas Democrat was treated at the same facility, and repeats speculation about a private jet flight without linking it to Talarico. PolitiFact lays out the timeline and the full transcript but doesn't mention the center's stated policy, reported by the Daily Wire, of neither confirming nor denying whether anyone is a patient.
09
The question to ask
If the caller's own recording began with "I do not find anyone with that name," why was it presented as confirmation?

Caveats and limits
Not verified
- We have not heard the full audio of every call Amacher made; the transcript quoted here is PolitiFact's.
- The identity of the woman on the recording has not been established.
Caveats
- Talarico's campaign said he was home in Austin recovering from the flu. This story rates only the claim about the Ohio hospital and makes no assessment of anyone's health.
- A Lindner Center spokesperson told the Daily Wire that the center does "not confirm or deny whether any individual is or has been a patient." Later that day, the center publicly stated that Talarico has never received treatment there.
